Song of the Day: Barracuda (Remixed)

Yeah, I didn't believe this at first, either. I was surfin' the net and found it sorta by accident. It was done last year, but it's new to me...and it's so good I just had to tell someone! ;-)

I stumbled upon the website for Lost Angeles Recordings (lostangelesrecordings.com)...the company behind mix duo D:Fuse & Hiratzka. Hidden on the bottom of the page, I see this link for a free download. Well, who am I to turn that down, right?

Blew my mind. A freakin' Dance Remix of "Barracuda" by 70s/80s classic rock band, Heart. Holy Crap this is good! My hat's off to D:Fuse & Hiratzka. Visit that site now and get you a copy.

I grew up hearing alot of classic rock being played on my dad's radio. Most I didn't care for, but I did like Heart, and "Barracuda" was probably my favorite. It had the tempo of a good Dance music track, afterall. Just not the beat. Well, it does now...and I'm glad I found it.

Song of the Day: Break My Fall

The last time Dutch trance superstar DJ Tiesto teamed up with one of America's foremost Electronica artist, BT, we got the great hit "Love Comes Again". Well, they've teamed up again and the result, "Break My Fall", is definitely another hit in the making.

BT's charming voice is one that's perfect for trance music, and it shows in this piece. Pair it with Tiesto's great production and this one is a sheer beauty. I saw the video on youtube, and it's great. My only beef is that whoever did BT's hair---I could do better blindfolded! LOL...but nonetheless, it's a great production.

Check out this track. Tiesto often teams up with great vocalists in addition to BT: Jes Brieden, Christian Burns, Kirsty Hawkshaw, Suzanne Palmer, and more. He knows a good voice when he hears it.

Song of the Day: Surrender Me

"Surrender Me" is the latest dance hit from Danielle Bollinger. You may remember her for her uplifting song "When The Broken Hearted Love Again" as well as "Kiss The Sky" and "You'll Always Have Me". The Detroit native has a great voice and has (so far) released very high-quality dance hits.

"Surrender Me" is no exception. I don't think it's out on single yet. I found it by buying a compilation CD The Event by DJ Tony Moran. (You can find it here: http://perfectbeat.com/product_info.php?products_id=294922554004) It's a great compilation CD with many songs on it that I love. But I must say "Surrender Me" is probably the best track on it. It just has this great energy about it, and I think it's destined to be a big club hit this summer. Check it out.

Song of the Day: Rain Down Love

OK, so this song has been out technically for practically half a year. But it's damn good. And I haven't heard it played much in the US, except for fusionchicago.com. And that's a shame.

The Freemasons are a big name in House music these days. They're probably more known for their remixes of various pop and R&B artists. They've done Beyonce' (including the slammin' remix of "Ring the Alarm"), Angie Stone, Luther Vandross, and many more. They've had some hits in the past of their own, too, including "Love On My Mind".

However, with "Rain Down Love", I think they've really outdone themselves. This is definitely a fun, catchy song. The Walken Mix of it is especially my favorite. Great beat, great melody, good vocals. If you've not heard it yet, give it a try. I think you'll love it.

Also, search the web for the video if you've never seen it. A bit campy, but also very fun.

Back Home in NC

Well I'm back home now. Portland was a blast. What a neat city...I really wish I could have spent more time there. The whole city center area is amazing...pedestrian friendly, good public transit, lots of shopping, dining and drinking. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to go out to any clubs there but I certainly hope to visit again in the future.
If you're ever there, I highly recommend the Ace Hotel in downtown, near the Pearl District. Very funky, cute little place.

Song of the Day: Again

A new artist has come out of the Netherlands named Kim Leoni. Her debut, "Again", is a real beauty of a song. It's a great song with various mixes both in Eurodance style and Trance. In the US, the single has been signed onto Robbins Entertainment label. For those who may not know, it's an all-Dance label but tends to only sign artists they feel will make it big. (Ie, Cascada, DJ Sammy and a few others that bring in the bucks.) For them to take on Kim Leoni speaks well of her chances to make it big on this side of the Atlantic.
Check out "Again"....I think you'll find it a great beginning for this young talented singer. My favorite mix is the Neo Cortex mix, but most of them are quite good regardless.

Off to Portland, OR

Tomorrow afternoon, the bf and I are heading to Portland, Oregon, for the wedding of some friends. Friends who live in New York City, and most of their family are also in New York area...as well as the bulk of their friends. But for some reason they're getting married in Portland, which is like several times as far of a flight. :-P Whee.

But it'll fun...I've never been there. Or anywhere west of Tennessee. So we'll see how that goes.

Song of the Day: Imagine If

"Imagine If" is a new song by the artist Tara Z. I admit, I know virtually nothing about her, apart from what I saw on the cdbaby site (http://cdbaby.com/cd/tara3). But it's definitely one of my favorite songs this summer.

The release offers many different mixes. I like practically all of them....something for everyone. If you're into Hi-NRG, then the Lenny B mix may be for you. If Trance appeals to you, try the Front mix. If you're a fan of Freestyle, then you're in luck, cuz there's two mixes for you: the Midnite Breaks mix or the DJ Volume mix. I have to say for this song, Midnite Breaks mix is my favorite...the beat is funky, and the cute guitar solo in the middle of it gives it a slight latin feel.

If you haven't heard this song yet, keep your ears open for it. It's definitely a blast.

Song of the Day: We All Belong

My first "Song-of-the-Day" Post:
"We All Belong" by Kate Ryan

I'm a big fan of Kate Ryan. I've been listening to her since she began releasing great Eurodance singles a few years ago. "Libertine", "Scream For More", "Only If I", "Je T'Adore", "Alive", "All For You"...the list goes on and on. The fact that she not only releases great songs in English but also in French is very awesome to me.
For those who don't know much about her, they can read up on her and hear all her songs at her website www.kateryan.be , so I won't go into all that here. Suffice to say, she is one of several awesome Belgian dance music artists that have become world-famous over the past half-a-dozen years for their upbeat, energetic music.

Her latest release is "We All Belong". At first hearing, you'll think that this song is actually pretty simple compared to most modern Dance Music. Not many overlapping instruments...a basic beat and a synthesizer or two. Certainly different from "Libertine"!
But the basic melody, verses and chorus are great. You really get into it. The tune gets in your head real easily. And the lyrics have a great story---everyone unite and get along. Nothing too deep, but it's fun.
This song has been released for the 2007 Euro Gay Games in Antwerp, Belgium, so it seemed appropriate for Kate Ryan. Plus, if you search youtube for this song, you might find an interview where Kate mentions her father is gay, and is getting married to his boyfriend! (Yes, they can do that in Belgium.)

I know Kate's no where near as famous in the US as she is in Europe. And it's a shame. I think most Americans, at least the dance music fans, would adore her if they heard her. I hope you do too.

Welcome !

Guess I'm joining the ranks of bloggers out there now.

Forgive me if I'm not great at it for now...I'm just starting!

The name of the blog is pretty clear-- I'm a Dance Music Addict. House, trance, freestyle, techno, Hi-NRG, Eurodance, etc. I listen to it pretty much nonstop. If you combined all the CD's and MP3s of this stuff that I have, you'd think I was running my own radio station. (God knows I'd love to. But alas, my real job is no where near as interesting!)
Not all my blog posts will be about this topic though...I'm sure I'll have random posts about just about anything. But...this will be the major recurring theme since I looked all over the net and there's very little personal blogs about Dance Music. Some commercial sites, but that's about it. (And no, I'm not counting music artists who have myspace pages...that's not the same thing.)

So enjoy my blog...I hope to make it at least relatively interesting.
